In the meantime, check out an overview of Conga Contracts! Dear R esident, Thank you to those of you who attended Monday night’s meeting and being so honest with your feedback . There has been quite a lot of activity on site in the last few days and I would like to update you with the progress so far. One of Fonterra’s expert wastewater scientists has been in Eltham every day since Tuesday taking samples and assisting our wastewa ter teams in their operations. Based on his recommendations, we have implemented a number of changes to how we are approaching the tr eatment process. ï‚· pH levels - I nstead of using powder ed sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), we are switching to a liquid form of caustic soda which will raise the pH levels in the Eader faster . ï‚· New chemical - T he waste will also be dosed with Ferric Chlori de (basically iron salts, in liquid form) which will be pumped into the Eader at a controlled rate. The Ferric Chloride will help settle the sulphur ous compounds which are the primary cause of the odour. ï‚· More Effective deodoriser - A blower fan was installed at the eastern end of the pond to better supress bad odours and the deodoriser used was changed to one with a stronger concentration. ï‚· Gas levels - The hydrogen sulphide gas level at the pond and the pH of the liquid waste are being measured daily . We have sought advice from the Medical Officer Of Health in New Plymouth on acceptable levels. ï‚· Gas composition - Following concerns about the composition of the gas we brought in a n expert from Auckland to take a full gas sample. Th e sample has b een sent to a lab oratory in Christchurch for testing and we should have the results of this by Monday. ï‚· Vermin control - Rat traps have been placed around the site and while, at the time, there was no sign of additional vermin or flies, we will continue to monitor this. As discussed on Monday, w e have set up a page on our website with additional information, www.southtaranaki.com/Council/Eltham - Eader and have also created a Facebook page. Simply login to Facebook and then search for ‘Eltham Eader’, alternatively the link can be found on the webpage mentioned above. Once again, thank you for your patience and please be assured we’re doing everything we can to get the probl em improved by Christmas. Please contact me if you have any queries regarding the above actions. I hope to see you at Tuesday night’s update meeting â€" Tuesday 17 December , 7pm at the Eltham Town Hall. Yours sincerely, Brent Manning Group Manager Engineering
