Dear p arents , families and friends, A very warm welcome back to the new school year! Staff have been eagerly awaiting pupils’ return and were delighted to be reunited with them. The hard work everyone has put in to get school ready has really paid off and I am really proud of the calm, pos itive environment in school today. Everyone has been amazing! I have included lots of photos on this newsletter so you can share in our pride and excitement! The new exercise books and targets books produced for school by Dactyl publishers in the village, have wowed pupils. They have loved looking through the Christian values dove to find the values that they suggested! We know that these beautiful books will really inspire pupils to produce their very best work and to look after their belongings. A huge thank you to Dactyl for their generosity and support of school. Our welcome worship this morning, focused on the theme of ‘ What have you done today to mak e you feel proud’ and staff will be asking pupils to share with them when they feel proud. This week we are focusing on when we are proud of doing something kind for someone else. I am sure you also feel proud at home when your child helps or shows part icular kindness so please do share this with us in school by email or a note in your child’s planner. Pupils will be collecting pictures, drawings and photos of when they have done something that has made them feel proud for our ‘Proud to be me’ display. We are looking forward to sharing their achievements with them. Welcome to new friends This school year we are delighted to be welcoming lots of new friends to school. We hope that Ariana, Oscar, James, William, Louis, Merlin, Harvey, Lucas, Amelie, and Lucy all love learning with us as part of the North Wheatley family. The new school build The new classrooms are huge!! Staff are very excited about the wonderful lear ning environments they will provide for all pupils! As you may be aware, there have been a few delays to the project, we are hoping that the modular build will be completed in the next few weeks so that EYFS and Class 1 can move into them while the builde rs work internally in Class 1 and Foundation stage classrooms. We have really appreciated everyone’s support and patience during the build project, we know that like us, everyone is eager for it to be finished. Fingers crossed we will be all sorted very soon! Swimming Pupils in Class 1 and 2 will start swimming lessons again next Wednesday afternoon. Please could you remind pupils that they will need their kit (including a towel!) on the day. Pupils who are swimming may also wear their North Wheatley PE kits on Wedne sdays, this makes it quick and easy to get changed! If your child wears goggles when they swim, please could you ensure that the correct form is completed and r eturned to the school office. NCC regulations state that earrings are not allowed to be worn when pupils attend school swimming. All pupils are expected to swim as part of their sports and physical curriculum if there is a serious medical reason why your child might not be able to swim please contact school the day before to discuss it further. Our Autumn Term gem powers This term pupils through out school will be focusing once again on earning their diamond powers by solving their own problems. We have already seen lots of children do this today! Being able to solve problems are life - long learning skills for pupils which once achieved, will give t hem the courage and determination to succeed in times of challenge. One of our focuses fo r pupils though the new concept - based curriculum, is to encourage pupils to think deeply and to think things through for themselves. We want to encourage independenc e and determination to be creative, and critical, thinkers ! Furthering improving school Every year all schools evaluate their provision and plan how to further improve the quality of education they provide. This year our School Development Pl an (SDP) focusses on four areas linked to the OFSTED categories. In Leadership, school leaders at all levels, will be ensuring that rigorous quality assurance and monitoring maintains exceptionally high standards across school and informs a further cycle of review, action, response. In teaching learning and assessment, the focus will be science where we will be further driving up the high standard of scientific enquiry and progress in knowledge and skill acquisition. In our behaviour, personal developme nt and welfare section of the SDP, we will be teaching Christian values, underpinned by our new curriculum, to encourage pupils to make positive behaviour choices, look after their own wellbeing and that of their friends. The fourth priority of the SDP , outcomes , focuses on inspiring all pupils as readers to develop a love of reading and of reading to learn. The plan is constantly monitored by all staff and by school governors to check that the actions have a positive impact on pupils’ progress. Running alongside the plan will be a constant process of curriculum and procedural review which enables the school to identify areas which can be further improved upon and actions taken to successfully achieve this . After school clubs This term’s after school clubs comprise, hockey on a Thursday after school, football on a Tuesday after school and rugby which will start on 21/09/2018. All pupils need to be collected promptly at the end of the sessions from the school front entrance to ensure that they go home safely . Workshops for Key Stage 1 and 2 parents (classes 1, 2 and 3) This term we have two great workshops which we hope will help families to work in close partnership with school. This Friday’ s h ome - school learning project workshop, will help parents to be aware of the expectations of pupils’ home school learning projects and how they can best support, and inspire, their child. On Monday, Miss Stokes will be introducing the online app ‘Seesaw’ to families. We used Seesaw in Class 3 last year to record and share pupils’ learning as well as to guide them through learning sessions. It is a wonderful way to see the progress your child is making in school! For ‘ S eesaw’ to have maximum impact, it is g reat when parents use it to interact with their child about learning. We look forward to seeing you at the sessions! The year ahead. Key dates and events for the next academic year have been shared on the school annual calendar, an online version of this is available on the school website under the calendar tab. We would advise families to use this to know what is happening where and wh en in school. We will also update the outside playground board each week. One amendment is the March Parents’ evening date which is just the 27 th March, not the 14 th and 27 t h . So as promised a few photos from today as we look forward to an amazing year ahead! With my best wishes for a productive an d enjoy able Autumn Term; I know that through working in partnership with you all, we can continue to take North Wheatley C of E Primary from strength to strengt h. I know it is going to be a fun - filled and thoroughly enjoyable year! Headteacher
